Family Retreat 2019
More Than You Can Imagine

15 – 17 March 2019 | Bali, Indonesia

Many defining moments in life come from having crucial conversations with the right people at the right time.

Where opinions differ, emotions run deep and the stakes are high – these crucial conversations often surround us in family business. How they are handled can lead to breakthroughs or breakdowns. Over time, they develop into generational family patterns that affect the lives of many.

This year’s retreat focuses on supporting families in business with the tools, approaches and protocols to have the necessary crucial conversations. Using the retreat as a platform to explore and practice across 7 private topics, the 3-day experience enables participants to speak their own truths when the stakes are high, uncover their own answers and harness the true potential for themselves and their families.

Designed as an experiential workshop in a retreat format, the experience will be More Than You Can Imagine!

WHY ATTEND

  • Practice in real-time new practical protocols, tools and approaches on-the-spot to optimize communication, manage conflict and strengthen cohesion among immediate and extended families
  • Harness the power of potential for yourself and your family through sensitively facilitated and forthright discussions on private topics such as:
      • Voice of the NxGen – Bridging across individual passions and family interests across generations
      • Being Different – Supporting diversity and inclusion in disability, depression and anxiety in families
      • Being the Black Sheep – Navigating and recovering from family exile, exclusion and isolation
      • The Prince Charles Syndrome – Family business succession planning for the “Lost” Generation
      • Managing the Family in times of critical incidents – liquidity events, business turnarounds, life-stage transitions such as marriage, re-marriage and divorce, new in-laws and new births
      • Final Acts of Love – Death, Dying and Renewal in family business
  • Commune in unique, meaningful socials and community building in a relaxed, confidential and safe environment with like-minded, respected peers in family business

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

The retreat is suitable for all family members, including

  • Founders, current generation leaders and successors who are active in the family business
  • Next generation family members who are above 18 years
  • Next generation family members who are yet to find their identity and relationship in the family business, whether they are potential successors or are taking on different paths outside of the family business
  • Those who are undecided about joining or leaving the family business
  • Those who are currently not active in the core family business, including retired matriarchs, patriarchs, spouses, in-laws and cousins. These roles have an important bearing on the overall health and longevity of the family business system

WHAT TO EXPECT

If you are attending the retreat for the first time, this experience will give you a first-hand exchange of ideas and good practice with Asian family businesses, especially those from Indonesia.

If you are a regular retreat attendee, this experience reinforces your learning from previous retreats. Over time, you will be able to develop a common language and shared approach to communication, emotional regulation and decision-making with the family members you attend with. In turn, this can engender sustainable transformation in areas of your choice. With this in mind, family attendance is recommended for ideal learning benefits.
