4.00pm – 5.30pm MYT
Imagine this. You lost the family empire that took 35 years to build. And just when you gain the momentum to rebuild together, you lost your brother.
Join us for an intimate afternoon of personal sharing with Dato’ Loy Teik Ngan (Group CEO, Taylor’s Education Group; President, FBN Asia).
– ABOUT DATO’ LOY TEIK NGAN –
Teik Ngan took over the reins of his family business, the MBf Group upon his father’s demise. It was also the 1998 Asian financial crisis and within a year, the sprawling business empire that took 35 years to build, collapsed under the weight of huge debts. Not only the family fortune was lost but the family also found themselves in a desperate financial plight due to the personal guarantees that they have given.
His brother and him were determined to clear the family’s debt and aspired to build a new family business together. That dream came crashing down when his brother met with a fatal car accident a few years later. It took 14 years before these family debts were eventually settled. In this time, he built a new family business, focused on education.
The Taylor’s Education Group is today the largest private education group in Malaysia. Focused on premium education, Taylor’s K-12 schools, college & universities are well known trusted and award winning brands operating in Malaysia, Singapore & Vietnam. This year, Taylor’s University was ranked Top #1 Private University in Southeast Asia.
This challenging period of his life has shaped Teik Ngan’s views about life and family business. He believes that when family members can collaborate well together, their business will thrive down the generations.
Teik Ngan is married with 4 children and lives in a compound of 21 family members.
