Learning Journey to Taiwan

Led by FBN Asia Next Gen members, Teng Chen Shun and Joshua Gan, this journey will offer insights into Taiwan’s major cities – Kaohsiung, known as Taiwan’s Maritime Capital and centre of the country’s heavy and petrochemical industries; and Taipei, the island’s financial, cultural and governmental centre.

You may arrange your own flights to Taiwan. As the programme will start in Kaohsiung, we recommend participants to fly in directly to Kaohsiung and arrange departing flight from Taipei.

Family Businesses

Established in 1976, Acer is a globally recognized name in hardware, software and services. The company is dedicated to the research, design, marketing, sale, and support of innovative products such as PCs, displays, projectors, servers, tablets, smartphones and wearables. It has also recently developed cloud solutions to bring together the Internet of Things. Celebrating its 40th year in 2016, Acer has become one of the world’s top PC companies. Founder and Chairman, Mr. Stan Shih and his son, Mr. Maverick Shih will share how they work together in bringing the business to its next stage of growth.

Established in 1890, Jiu Zhen Nan is a renowned 127-year-old name in the pineapple tart and pastry business. Produced using traditional techniques, the quality of their products has been maintained over generations. During the visit, owners Mr. Eric Lee and his son will share how the family was able to sustain the business for more than a century. Participants can look forward to an interactive dialogue on how family businesses can reinvent themselves to stay relevant in today’s market.

Jong Shyn Shipbuilding Group was founded in the early 1970s. The company’s line of business includes building and repairing ships, barges, and lighters; and manufactures most of the steel aluminum vessels in Taiwan. Jong Shyn has built its reputation not only by delivering more than 250 various types of ships but also by maintaining around 600 navy and coast guard vessels. Second generation, Mr. Han, will share about how his father started the business and how they have been navigating through multiple shipping cycles.

WWRC Group is a Pan-Asia Chemical Distributor. Founded in Singapore in 1980, WWRC has since expanded through the years to Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, China, South Korea, Philippines and Vietnam, providing chemical solutions to various industries. The Teng cousins, second-generation family business owners working in the business – will share their insights on working together to innovate and grow the business.
