There is no business like Family Business. It stands out from other types of businesses because of a certain kind of passion that can be a unique source of strength. At the same time it faces some specific issues which include: bringing on the Next Generation of owners; family dynamics; organising governance of the business and the family; and dealing with inheritance and gift taxes. These issues are mostly ignored by general business networks. To meet these needs, the Family Business Network was set up in 1989.
We know that running a family business can be difficult. We know that it can be lonely in ways that few outsiders understand. But we also know that the commitment and multi-generational thinking of family businesses can provide an unrivaled competitive edge and huge personal satisfaction.
Family Business Network Asia
Family Business Network (FBN) Asia is a regional chapter of FBN International, a private not-for-profit organisation representing family businesses in 65 countries across 5 continents. FBN Asia offers opportunities for stakeholders of the family business to learn, communicate and share within the safe haven of its family business community.
Working in concert with institutions and experts in the family business and sustainability space on research and capacity development, the Network integrates old wisdom, learned skills and new knowledge in a practice context, to build a sustainable family business community.
FBN is a members-driven organization, for families and by families. Every trip I’ve gone on with FBN feels like a family trip with extended family members, where everyone is unafraid to share our deepest concerns in a safe, trusted environment. I’m personally very grateful for the memories my family has had together as the result of FBN Family Retreat, Learning Journey and look forward to joining many more in the future.
